Early Life and Education
Molly Bloom was born in 1978 in Colorado, USA. She had a normal child; her father was a professor and clinical psychologist. Molly studied in the local schools given that her father was working in Colorado University. After high school, she proceeded to college where she majored in political science.
Skiing Career
Molly loved skiing, having learnt the skill from her mother. She had participated in several tournaments and she was among the top talents. However, she suffered an injury that shattered her dreams of becoming an Olympic champion one day. Her brother had done so well in skiing and it was her dream to continue from where her brother would have left but after the injury, she left home to look for other opportunities.
The Poker World
After her injury, Molly moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a bartender for several night clubs. After sometime she started working for The Viper Room; here she could meet various celebrities. While working at The Viper Room, the owner started hosting poker games and this exposed her to a new level of business deals. At first, Molly was working as a waitress but after sometime, she was promoted into a manager of the poker games. She could manage the needs of various individuals and at the end of the night they would leave her hefty tips.
While managing these players’ needs, she also studied poker games with an aim of hosting the games herself one day. In 2007, she started hosting poker games and soon after she launched her own company called Molly Bloom Inc. Through her company, she would host poker games in various five-star hotels and at the end of the night she would make thousands of dollars.
In 2008, there was a recession but this did not affect Molly Bloom’s poker business. She was able to host poker games, doing so in some of the exquisite places such as Plaza Hotel and The New Astor Place. Besides, she was able to attract several other celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Dammon, Alec Gores, Alex Rodriguez and Ashley Olsen.
Financial Losses
Molly Bloom was one of the most sought-after business moguls in the 2000s. But her downfall came in 2010, when she was fined over 100, 000 for failing to pay her taxes. The following year, one of her businesses was closed down; the law officers claimed that one of her players was involved in a Ponzi scheme. This was the start of the attacks on her businesses and this led to her bankruptcy. Besides, she was charged some fines and was expected to serve a one-year on probation.
